Why is it so important to groom your dog every 6 to 8 weeks?
December 7, 2014
If you have a breed of dog that the hair growns long it is so important to keep up with regular grooming.
I can't tell you how many times I have had people bring their dog to me and their fur is so matted ,the
matts are right to the skin. Now this did not happen over night.
I know we are all very busy , and may not have the time to comb out the dog everyday, but if you keep up with going to the groomer every 6 to 8 weeks the so called over night matts may not happen.
When you bring your dog in and the poor dog has matts which are right to the skin , it is so hard on him as well as your groomer to get them out. I would never ever suggest combing them out as I feel that is too painful for the dog. Would you like your hair pulled on by the roots ? I always suggest a short cut , hair
grows back and this way it is less stressful on the dog. That being said it is always a big job as when I have
a dog like that come in I must be very very careful when clipping the matts out that the skin does not get cut in the process. It can be a very stressfull job.
The simplist solution to this is to make sure the dog gets to the groomer every 6 to 8 weeks. That way
the dog has a bath, combed out , cliped, and if you like that longer look this is the best way to maintain it.
More important if you bring in the dog frequently , he gets use to it and the grooming takes less time which
